Through CBC / Radio-Canada, I was part of the Découverte / Nature of Things team covering scientific current affairs stories for over 5 years. I further expanded my expertise when in 2008, I shot a major part of a 3 hour documentary series aired for Découverte and Nature of Things on climate change and the north-west passage that brought me to the northern edges of Canada and Alaska, USA.
I have been on month-long trips in the arctic to shoot a series of mini documentaries for CBC / Radio-Canada for their ‘Eye On The Arctic’ web site. We covered human, artistic, historical, and daily life of Inuit culture, from Nunavut to Greenland. Much of the experience for this type of production was acquired through shooting done with CBC North covering the same kind of stories with the Cree people of Northern Quebec.
As a freelance, I’ve shot documentaries covering specific aspects of World War II with Alain Stanké in Europe and the US, interviewing witnesses, partakers, and experts into the historic events surrounding Nuremberg trials, English and American aviators that were shot down over occupied France and smuggled back to England through resistance cells led by French Canadians in the northern France. The latest project with Alain involved the 25th anniversary of the Genocide in Rwanda, Africa.
In early 2017, through the CBC / Radio-Canada, I’ve helped start the new sports documentary web platform called ‘Podium’. Shooting world-wide and telling stories from the vantage point of the athlete's experience and challenges, we helped establish a new style of production and aesthetics at CBC / Radio-Canada that evolved to a TV series and is to this day producing affirmative reviews.
I’ve traveled much for the ‘How It’s Made’ series since 2012. As DOP and part of various crews, I’ve covered over 250 subjects on how simple base materials become objects, tools, or foods that we consume. Shot world-wide, the crew moved daily to different locations over month-long trips to cover the different steps in creating common objects and aptly met the challenges of shooting in new locations to bring the ‘story’ back.
For all these projects and more, I’ve devoted my talents to perceive ambient lighting, camera angles and optics to express emotions, aesthetics, and storytelling.
Anyone who knows me appreciates the fact that I am an organized ‘gear slut’ and ready to handle the challenges of productions.
But all this is just so that we can go out there to capture the stories, and make them memorable.
